Tips for Producing a Successful Musical
Canadian Music Educator
Vol. 59, No. 3 (2018)
Abstract - The annual musical is one of the major events for high school music programs. Several school music programs and community organizations across the country and around the world produce amateur theatre of all varieties. In my city of Regina, Saskatchewan, ten of the fifteen public and Catholic high schools produce either an annual or a bi-annual full-length musical.

Moses George Hogan: His Life, His Song
Choral Journal
Vol. 46., Iss. 5 (Nov 2005)
Abstract - Composer, pianist, and teacher Moses George Hogan, who died in 2003, is profiled. Hogan began his musical life as a pianist and accompanist for his church. Later, he expanded his musical education at the New Orleans Centre for Creative Arts, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School of Music, and Louisiana State University. In 1980, Hogan founded the Moses Hogan Chorale, which was devoted to the promotion of spirituals, and in 1998, he formed a national choir called the Moses Hogan Singers. During his lifetime, Hogan published 80 choral compositions, in addition to eight solo voice arrangements of traditional Negro Spirituals. Although each of his arrangements is unique, the works generally fall into three main categories: traditional, soloist versus choir, and choral layering. The male voice plays an important role in many of Hogan's arrangements. A discography and a list of arrangements by Hogan are included.
